A site-specific performance seeking happiness in a world drowning in a pile of useless things by the group “Stereo Nero” of choreographer Evi Souli.
In a nostalgic present where they long for lost glory, within an environment filled with sarcasm, bitter humor about what has passed, and fear of what is to come, a group of six girls tries to grasp onto the trivial and ephemeral materials, much like their fleeting youth that bids them farewell. The Beckettian universe serves as a springboard for the creation of a personal world where simple and common things transform into grand ideas, thoughts, and ideals to constitute our own “happy days.”
With the compass of Glykeria Basdeki’s texts (tears, 2019), the group blends disparate elements in an attempt to synthesize the everyday with the poetic, in a surreal atmosphere of a forgotten shopping center. All these allow us to dream of sometimes becoming Fellini’s protagonists and at other times the main act on the stage. Searching for happiness, everything can explode, but Angelos Papadimitriou will be there to lead us into the light through the final scene of Antonioni’s Zabriskie Point.

“I approached the story of ‘Psilika’ as many stories contained within one another, a continuous mise en abyme, just as a small everyday shop can contain a series of interconnected narratives. Very early in my discussions with Evi, the concepts of the trivial, the useless, but also accumulation and attachment to material objects emerged. This approach captivated me because the way any story is created and its significance is closely related to the points we choose to archive and ultimately narrate with a specific flow. Consequently, anything trivial can be recontextualized and acquire different value on a narrative level. As a scenographer in the performance ‘Psilika’, I wanted to explore the different atmospheres provided by the characters and their references. The concept of the ‘box’, of encapsulating small stories that are related to each other, found fertile ground in a very charming shopping center where a variety of perspectives are allowed. The materiality of ‘Psilika’ is dull, crumpled, yet ethereal and with folds. The multiple stories are discernible through one another but do not burden us nor are they categorically declarative. Every production that happens with the group ‘Stereo Nero’ is a journey that lasts a long time, often unexpectedly long before its presentation.”
